Chika Ota ‘11 completed her tenure as the Rollins Fellow for the Office of the University Printer at the end of 2013. Among her many contributions to print culture at Yale were President Levin’s send-off book, Peter Salovey’s inauguration and countless other endeavors to convey Yale’s message through design.

YPPS and Community Action Agency of New Haven

This holiday season Yale Printing & Publishing Services (YPPS) once again contributed to the New Haven community by hosting their annual department food drive together with the Christian Community Action Agency.In addition to this group’s generous nonperishable food donation, YPPS held their first “Deck the Office Space” contest to help generate extra cash to those in need. The rules of the contest included a $5 donation to enter and both an individual and department group prizewinner were announced.

YPPS Deck the Office Space Winners

YPPS got into the Holiday spirit with its first annual “Deck the Office Space Contest.” YPPS Director Jeff Gworek was blown away by the response: “This thing has morphed into Holiday craziness, the like of which I’ve never seen.  Amazing effort to show the holiday spirit in numerous ways.  Great job by the organizers.”Congrats to Jason England, winner of the individual prize for best decorated cubicle, and to the digital printing department, who won the group prize for the innovation and imagination of their decorations, which were also 100% sustainable!

Holiday Projects Completed by YPPS

YPPS has been quite busy this holiday season. Holiday mailings for the United Way and the Yale School of Nursing include some of the projects that we’ve recently completed. The Adrian Van Sinderen Prize

Yale Printing & Publishing Services is part of the larger printing community at Yale University. In New Haven and the university, print culture is vibrant and thriving. YPPS would like to spotlight the Adrian Van Sinderen Prize. In order to encourage undergraduates to collect books, build their own libraries, and read for pleasure and education, Adrian Van Sinderen, Class of 1910, established in 1957 two prizes, one for seniors and one for sophomores. The competition is now open and applications must be submitted by 5 p.m.

Holiday Cheer comes to YPPS

YPPS proudly announces the first annual “Deck the Office Space Contest.” Decorating commences December 2nd with winners announced by December 20th.  Anyone can participate as a group or individual (enter in 1 category - not both). We are striving for 100% participation. The Entry fee of $5.00 per person will be donated to the Community Action Agency Food Pantry. One trophy for the Group Decoration and one trophy for the Individual Decoration will be awarded. Anyone participating must have a clean desk area to work in. Any electrical items must be neatly displayed.

Yale Blue: What's in a Color?

CMYK 100, 75, 8, 40 or Pantone 289 is best known as Yale Blue. The color associated with Yale and her traditions was standardized by the University Printer, John Gambell in 2005 in the third university search for “true Yale Blue.” However, much as Harvard Crimson was almost Harvard Magenta, the tradition of Yale Blue was far from secure well into the early 20th century. The color was only officially adopted as the school’s color in 1894. For fifty years before adopting blue, Yale had been associated with the color green.

George H.W. Bush '48 Lifetime of Leadership Award

This weekend, the Yale Athletic Department will honor five alumni with the George H.W. Bush Lifetime Award. The award honors alumni athletes who, in their lives after Yale, have made significant leadership contributions in their worlds of governance, commerce, science and technology, education, public service, and the arts and media.
