YPPS Featured Employee - Mable Thorne
Mable has printer’s ink in her blood. She does not remember a time when weekends and summer days were not spent at her family’s shop, S. M. Parks Printing Company, est. 1923, learning letterpress printing from her father.
In 1982, Mable joined the U.S. Navy. Being a daddy’s girl, pursuing a career in printing was a natural fit – so she enlisted as a lithographer. In her 21-year career, she worked in printing shops aboard ships and at shore facilities. Starting at the lowest enlisted rank, Mable earned promotions up to the rank of Chief Petty Officer, a source of tremendous pride and accomplishment. She feels a similar pride with each job she finishes.

Remembering Shirley Conyers-Ford: 1964-2012
We are deeply saddened to have to report the sudden and unexpected passing of Shirley Conyers-Ford, a much-beloved member of the YPPS family, on Friday, August 3rd. Shirley had been with Yale for 29 years, and with YPPS for the last 7 years of that time.
Colleagues at Yale described Shirley as “a breath of fresh air every day.” She worked at the medical school before moving to the main campus, and co-workers would joke that it took her forever to traverse any medical-area hallway, for Shirley’s fans would “spot her from random offices” and rush out “to reconnect.” Her cheerful smile and constantly upbeat humor have been a blessing to us all over the years.
YPPS Showcases High-End Event and Conference Print Strategies at our first "Lunch and Learn"
There are many elements involved in hosting a successful conference or event. Having great speakers and a focused agenda certainly helps - but the presentation really begins long before opening day. The quality of your promotional materials is an indication of how much care has gone into planning the event - and a top-of-the-line event deserves nothing less than the best that modern printing has to offer.
