YPPS Develops Touch-Screen Application for New Hall of Champions at Mory’s

On Thursday, January 14th, Mory’s celebrated the opening of the Thomas A. Beckett Hall of Champions, honoring Beckett’s first 20 years as Director of Athletics at Yale. The Hall of Champions connects Mory’s Main Dining Room with the popular Temple Bar, and is a well-traveled passageway. The launch event was attended by Yale President Peter Salovey, guest of honor Thomas Beckett, and a large number of other past and present Yale VIPs.

The new, permanent exhibit combines historic images and modern technology:

  • New Haven-based design company Strong Cohen created a layout of large full-color photos of all 35 varsity sports, recent championship teams, as well as images of many new and renovated athletic facilities at Yale.

  • YPPS developed two electronic systems for the new exhibit. A 32-inch high-definition touchscreen system allows visitors to browse photos of all Yale Ivy Championship teams from 1956 to 2015. The system allows searching by sport and year. Additionally a 32” vertical monitor in the Temple Bar displays a rotation of photos of current Yale varsity team captains. Both systems were developed by YPPS’s Nick Appleby, who created the software for the systems and also assisted Mory’s with selection, purchase and setup of the necessary hardware.

The combined exhibit is the most comprehensive collection of Yale athletic photos on display anywhere on campus.
